Urban Pioneers, Adrian+Meredith at People’s Brewing

by Carl Abernathy on October 11, 2017

I left my parents’ house in Georgia at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. At 5 p.m., I found myself parked on a barstool at People’s Brewing waiting to hear the Urban Pioneers, one of my favorite bands. It was worth it.

The Urban Pioneers played some new tunes that will be on a forthcoming album, and they were great. I see a lot of fiddle players, but Liz Sloan just might be the best. Jared McGovern, who plays banjo and guitar, and Martin Sargent, who plays bass, are pros, too. Thank God the Texas-based group rolls through town frequently; I’ve seen them at least 10 times in Lafayette and at Muddy Roots events.

Adrian+Meredith opened and they were a lot fun, too.
