Cody Ray at People’s Brewing

by Carl Abernathy on February 21, 2017

My mama in Georgia would love Cody Ray. He’s a polite young Southern guy with a winning smile. Most importantly, he’s apparently a Braves fan – he was wearing a Braves cap, at least – and mama adores the Atlanta Braves. And though mom isn’t much of a music fan, she admires folks who sing well.

Ray, a Lafayette transplant from Tennessee, certainly sings well. Tuesday night at People’s Brewing Co., Ray and his band glided through a series of catchy originals and lovely covers by folks such as Jason Isbell, Merle Haggard, John Prine and Neil Young.

Pop, Americana, old-school country. Ray captivated the audience with all his songs. I’m glad I finally got a chance to hear him. I just wish mama could have been there, too.
