Robyn Ludwick: “Out of These Blues’

by Carl Abernathy on October 18, 2011

Robyn Ludwick’s voice quivers ever so prettily when she sings songs such as “Hollywood,” “Out of These Blues” and “For You Baby” on her latest album.

The songs — wrapped in a soulful, slightly swampy overcoat — will give you chills. They’re the kind of country tunes that will break your heart as quickly as you can say Sammi Smith. Nashville wouldn’t touch them, I’m sure, and that’s just fine by me because Ludwick’s co-conspirators, including Gurf Morlix, Ian McLagan, Slaid Cleaves and John Ludwick, probably wouldn’t step into a slick Music City studio anyway.

Robyn Ludwick probably won’t be dominating the CMT airwaves anytime soon. But with “Out of These Blues,” she’s sure to expand her loyal fan base that one day just might be bigger than the fan bases of her more famous brothers, Bruce and Charlie Robison.
